Canada's Housing Crisis: Why We Act Now
3.5M
Housing Units Required
To restore affordability across Canada by 2030
2.3M
Current Projection
Units expected to be added by 2030 under current trends
1.2M
Unit Shortfall
Gap between needed and projected housing units
To restore affordability across Canada, CMHC estimates the country must add 3.5 million housing units by 2030. This figure includes both market and non-market (affordable) housing, and aims to bring affordability levels back to those seen in 2004. Without bold interventions, Canada's housing stock will only reach 18.2 million β€” short of the 22 million units needed.
The Affordable Housing Gap
While the 3.5 million unit goal includes all housing types, the most urgent need lies in the deeply affordable and non-market segments. FlotteVerte EcoLiving's Phase 1 is designed to help fill this specific gap β€” delivering modular, net-zero homes rapidly and cost-effectively for high-priority populations, including those currently unhoused.
Housing Types by Affordability
1
Market Rate Housing
Standard housing options available at market prices
2
Affordable Housing
Below-market options for moderate-income households
3
Deeply Affordable Housing
Most urgent need for vulnerable populations
